We want your input!
We will discuss 2023 USDA NRCS programs and make decisions on where to prioritize funding for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc Counties. This is a great time to learn about new NRCS cost-share programs and meet other local residents who want to protect natural resources in Androscoggin & Sagadahoc Counties.

Leaf Peeping Paddle
Monday, Oct 10th CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN (sorry for the inconvenience) Camp Gustin, Sabbatus Enjoy the beauty of Autumn from a different perspective…on the water! Join AVSWCD Project Director Emma Lorusso for a morning paddle on Loon Pond. Camp Gustin and the adjoining land was recently purchased by Androscoggin Land Trust, this beautiful campground and delicate wetlands and shoreland is a treasure for recreation in Androscoggin County. Let's get out there and enjoy it! We will discuss some of the science behind the Autumnal color change, point out any wildlife we might see, learn how to identify the trees based on their color and more! It will be a great time to just get out on the water and enjoy the day.

Forestry Workshop: BMPs to Protect Water Quality on Haul Roads and Skid Trails Wednesday, Oct 5th 9am-3pm USDA Office 254 Goddard Road, Lewiston
This workshop is designed for foresters and loggers and includes indoor presentations and an outdoor session. The workshop will focus on the Fundamental BMPs with an emphasis on controlling the flow of water and minimizing/stabilizing exposed mineral soil. Lunch provided to attendees.
The content was developed by the Maine Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Maine Forest Service as a level one BMP training.
This session is pending approval for the following continuing education credits: SAF = Category 1 credits CLP = day certification This workshop is sponsored by Maine SFI, Irving Woodlands, The Appalachian Mountain Club, Weyerhaeuser and the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District. These workshops are provided through the partnership of the Maine SFI and the Maine Forest Service. Registration is required. This event has passed.
Preserving the Harvest A Hands-On Food Preservation Workshop Tuesday, October 4th 4pm-6pm Lewiston Public Library, Lewiston
Ever wonder how to preserve all those great fall apples? This hands-on food preservation workshop taught by UMaine Extension volunteers and staff will teach you the basic steps for canning and freezing applesauce. Participants will receive a "Preserving the Harvest" food preservation packet, and will learn recommended methods for preserving apples, the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars. Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop.
